Quiz and Blog : Migration of Prophet Muhammad to Madinah

Migration (Hijrah) to Madinah

🚶‍♂️ Migration (Hijrah) to Madinah

The Migration (Hijrah) of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his followers from Makkah to Madinah in 622 CE marks one of the most important events in Islamic history. It was not just a physical journey but a spiritual and strategic transition that laid the foundation for the Islamic state and community (Ummah).

Background of Hijrah

For over a decade, Muslims in Makkah faced persecution, torture, and boycott from the Quraysh. When the situation became unbearable, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ allowed his followers to migrate to Yathrib (later known as Madinah), where the people were more open to accepting Islam.

Invitation from Madinah

The leaders of the tribes of Aws and Khazraj in Madinah invited the Prophet ﷺ to come and lead their divided community. They pledged to support him and protect him as one of their own. This pledge is known as the **Pledge of Aqabah**.

The Hijrah Journey

The Prophet ﷺ secretly left Makkah with his close companion Abu Bakr (RA). They hid in the cave of **Thawr** for three nights to escape the Quraysh’s pursuit. Eventually, they reached Madinah safely, welcomed with love and celebration.

Significance of Hijrah

  • It marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar (Hijri calendar).
  • The Muslim community gained freedom to practice Islam.
  • The first Islamic state was established in Madinah with the Prophet ﷺ as its leader.
  • Brotherhood was established between the Muhajirun (migrants) and Ansar (helpers).

Lessons from Hijrah

Hijrah teaches us sacrifice, trust in Allah (Tawakkul), patience, strategic planning, and building community through cooperation and faith. It is a symbol of struggle for truth and freedom.
